What should I do with a metal splinter?

I was gilding a lead sheet of lead when a splinter broke off and became lodged in my hand. The fragment is about .5 inchs long and I am not sure if I should pull it out or leave it in. I put a rope around my arm to prevent bloodflow and I am afraid that if I take it off I will get lead poisoning. Should I go to the hospital for this?

Definitely go to A&E - you need to get it removed before other health complications settle in. In the meantime; you need to wrap the injury with More Than just a rope - a tea towel or jumper would do. This will stem the blood flow and apply pressure to the wound. Please don't remove it yourself - that would be a big mistake and leave it open to infection and other injuries.
