Does an electric lawnmower pack any real punch. Or, is a 4.5HP gas one sufficient for a small lwn/yr d?

Ive got one of the Black and Decker electric lawnmowers... had to switch to it, because the arthritis in my shoulders wouldnt let me 'pull start' gas mowers anymore, lol.

I am very happy with our electric mower. Ive got a very good, heavy duty extension cord, and can reach anywhere in the yard with it... its quieter than a gas mower, lighter, easier to push, and, I have had no trouble cutting grass of any height....even really tall grass.

If you have a really small yard, you may want to consider one of the battery powered mowers, like the Neuton brand cordless mower. It costs a bit more, but you can get some nice attachments (like a trimmer/edger), and it is much lighter than even my B&D electric mower.

By the way, a Neuton will run $300 to $400 with the attachments... I paid about $180 for my B&D electric... and you will spend $90 to $150 on a gas mower....but that's just the initial purchase, .. then youve got gas/oil/filters/spark plugs, etc....

Ive had my B&D electric mower for 2 years now, and have had to do nothing to it... it's still running great.
